I haven’t published a new book since April 2019. I struggled to get Crime Thriller (the third book in the Genre Writer series) finished, having trashed a good part of the first draft because I wasn’t happy with it. After that, I needed to take a break. Not from writing but from writing about writing. It turned out to be a longer break than I planned.
I wasn’t idle during this time. During late 2018 and the early part of 2019 I wrote a handful of scripts for short films. None of these is likely to be produced, sadly, but writing them did get me thinking about short-form stories and I want to write more of them.
I spent the latter half of 2019 and all of 2020 writing fiction. A new series of science fiction novels. I wanted to have some fun playing with the cool toys in the SF toybox. And mix them up with ideas from action-adventure movies and spaghetti Westerns. I planned to write a trilogy so I could try out a ‘rapid release’ schedule for the series and I ended up doing four of them — and have two more in the pipeline for a six-book ‘season one’.
The series is called Outlaws of the Galaxy and you can read more about it — including some sample chapters — by clicking here.
If you’re hoping to see more non-fiction from me, there should be a couple of new titles later in 2021. I’ve started work on them but still have a lot of research to do.
Finally here I want to thank everyone who has e-mailed me during the last eighteen months, I do appreciate it. Even when you write to point out typos.
Stay safe,
Paul
